CD-ROM not functioning

When inserting the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, the START screen does not appear. 1. Check the CD-ROM for cracks or finger prints on the underside (silver side). Clean fingerprints and mild surface markings with a soft cloth such as a t-shirt.
  2. Open the executable file (EXE) manually. If the EXE can be opened manually the AutoRun function is not enabled on computer. The EXE will need to be launched manually every time.
  3. Load the CD-ROM in another optical drive on same computer. If the CD-ROM functions in another optical drive, use that drive to run the CD-ROM.
  4. Load the CD-ROM in an optical drive on a different computer, preferably in a different location. If the CD-ROM functions in an optical drive on a different computer, and the computer that does not run the CD-ROM is on a network, upgrade the user's profile from User to Power User or Administrator.
   
Buttons not functioning
When moving the mouse cursor over a button, no change in the mouse cursor takes place, or when clicking a button, navigational features do not function. 1. Check if Adobe® Acrobat® Reader is installed Install Adobe® Acrobat® Reader from the CD-ROM start screen.
  2. Check if Adobe® Acrobat® Reader version 6 is installed If so – Uninstall Adobe® Acrobat® Reader version 6 and install the version on the CD-ROM.

If Adobe® Acrobat® Reader
version6 must be installed, install the version of Adobe® Acrobat® Reader on the CD-ROM and launch that version prior to loading the CD-ROM.
     
Buttons not functioning
Menu, Home, or Exit buttons only. When clicking on a button the PDF file closes, leaving Adobe Acrobat Reader open (gray screen). 1. Check if Adobe® Acrobat® Reader Version 6.0 is installed Uninstall Adobe® Acrobat® Reader version 6 and use the version that came with the CD-ROM.

Adobe Acrobat Reader must be closed manually if version 6 is used.
     
Buttons not functioning
When clicking a button linked to a PDF file, an error is displayed reading "Error opening [drive letter]\[file name].pdf" 1. Check if Adobe® Acrobat® Reader is installed IF SO – Uninstall Adobe® Acrobat® Reader version 6 and install the version on the CD-ROM.
 

2. Load the CD-ROM in an optical drive on a different computer, preferably in a different location.

If the CD-ROM functions in an optical drive on a different computer, and the computer that does not run the CD-ROM is on a network, upgrade the user's profile from User to Power User or Administrator.
     
Media/Video Clips not functioning
When clicking on a Media/Video Clip an error is displayed reading "Cannot Initialize QuickTime. Check your QuickTime and Acrobat MoviePlayer plugin installations." 1. Check if Adobe® Acrobat® Reader Version 5.0 is installed

QuickTimemovie player software should be installed for the clip to play properly. For the latest version of the FREE QuickTime movie player software from Apple®, go to www.quicktime.com.

Although there are no Media Clips that use the QuickTime CODEC, certain versions of Windows Media Player looks for this software before checking for other CODECs.

     
Media/Video Clip image missing
When clicking on a Media/Video Clip button, the Media/Video Clip image is replaced with a torn black and white filmstrip icon. 1. Check if Adobe® Acrobat® Reader Version 7.0 is installed

1. Open Adobe Acrobat Reader version 7

2. Choose Edit > Preferences

3. Under "Categories" (left side of window), select the Trust Manager option

4. Under the "Display Permissions for:" drop down menu, choose Trusted Documents

5. In the "Multimedia Permissions Settings" section, ensure that all four "Allow" check boxes are checked

6. Select a media player in the white window located below the "Allow Multimedia Operations" checkbox

7. While the media player is highlighted, set the "Change permission for selected multimedia player to:" dropdown menu to "ALWAYS"

8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until all media players shown in the white box have been changed to "ALWAYS"

9. Under the "Display Permissions for:" drop down menu, choose Non-trusted Documents

10. Repeat step 5 then steps 6 and 7 until all media players shown in the white box have been changed to "ALWAYS"

     
MasterMath™ questions have odd looking characters in text
Numbers for fractions show up as letters (Ex. 1 = Z).  

End user must have New Century Schoolbook font installed on their computer to see the fonts correctly.

PowerPoint® Buttons not functioning
When Clicking on a PowerPoint™ chapter button (on the table of contents screen), an error is displayed. 1. Verify that the PowerPoint file (on the CD-ROM) can be opened manually through the PowerPoint™ Reader or the PowerPoint™ application.

The PowerPoint™ file must be opened manually to access.

Adobe® Acrobat® Reader™ error dialog box
When opening a PDF file an error dialog box appears. When opening a PDF file an error dialog box appears detailing the following:

"You cannot currently view Adobe PDF files from within your web browser due to a configuration problem. Would you like Acrobat to fix the configuration?
"

With the error dialog box open, deselect the check box "always perform this check when starting Acrobat", select the Yes button.

     
QuickQuizzes™ not launching
When clicking the QuickQuizzes Start button the computer locks up. Older versions of EMC and LPB have very large QuickQuiz™ files because of the content. These traditionally run slow. If the user has other applications or services running, this slows down the operation of the QuickQuizzes™ to a point where the computer may lock up.

Limit the amount of programs and services that are running during the operation of the QuickQuizzes™

     

Adobe Acrobat Reader V.6 Problems

American Technical Publishers, Inc. strives for excellence in product quality and usability. Full compatibility with third-party software and ease of use are features incorporated into our products.

It has been determined through product testing at American Tech that Adobe® Acrobat® Reader™ Version 6.0.0 is not 100% backward compatible with previous versions of Adobe® Acrobat® Reader™. This results in functional problems when using American Tech CD-ROM products.

This information has been communicated to Adobe Systems Incorporated, and their engineers are developing a resolution for this problem.
